City Notices: Presidents’ Day Holiday Schedule and Winter Service Updates

Holiday Office Closures and Service Interruptions
In observance of Presidents’ Day, all Indianapolis City-County government offices are closed today, Monday, February 16, 2026. This closure includes administrative offices in the City-County Building, as well as Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) administrative branches and the Marion County Clerk’s Office. Normal business hours are expected to resume on Tuesday, February 17.
Department of Public Works: Trash Collection Slide Schedule
The Department of Public Works (DPW) has implemented a holiday “slide schedule” for all residential trash, heavy trash, and curbside recycling collections. Because the holiday falls on a Monday, all service days will shift back by one day for the remainder of the week. Residents who normally receive collection on Monday will have their items picked up on Tuesday. This pattern continues through the week, with Friday routes being serviced on Saturday, February 21. Residents are encouraged to have their carts at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on their adjusted day to ensure pickup.
City-County Council Meeting Update
The Indianapolis City-County Council does not have a full council meeting scheduled for today due to the federal holiday. Official business and committee work will resume tomorrow, Tuesday, February 17, with the Administration and Finance Committee and the Education Committee both slated to meet in the City-County Building. Agendas for these sessions are available via the city’s meeting portal for public review.
Winter Weather and Public Safety Advisories
Local health and public service officials are reminding residents to remain vigilant regarding winter safety. With recent reports of pedestrian incidents, citizens are urged to clear snow and ice from sidewalks and around residential trash carts. When placing carts out for the adjusted holiday collection, ensure there is a four-foot clearance on all sides to allow automated trucks safe access. Additionally, DPW suggests placing carts in front of large snow piles rather than behind them to maintain visibility for operators.
Indy Parks Winter Programming
Despite the holiday closure of administrative offices, Indy Parks facilities such as Perry Park continue to offer seasonal recreation. Winter activities, including Stick and Puck Hockey and Steel Sled Hockey, remain available for residents of all abilities. Looking ahead, registration is currently open for upcoming community classes, including oil painting at the Garfield Park Arts Center and crochet workshops at Broad Ripple Park, both scheduled to begin later this month.
