I-465 Lane Restrictions and Washington Street Closures Lead Presidents' Day Traffic Outlook

Presidents' Day Holiday Traffic Patterns
Commuters in Indianapolis can expect significantly lighter traffic volumes this morning, Monday, February 16, 2026, as many local government offices, schools, and businesses observe the Presidents' Day holiday. While the morning rush hour is projected to be smoother than a typical Monday, significant construction projects and planned lane restrictions remain in effect across the metro area. Drivers should remain vigilant as road crews take advantage of the lower traffic volumes to proceed with major infrastructure repairs.
Major Interstate Restrictions: I-465 and I-69
Several critical work zones will impact travel on the Interstate 465 loop today. On the south side, motorists should prepare for daily lane closures on westbound I-465. The left lane will be shut down between U.S. 31 and Bluff Road from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for barrier wall improvements. These repairs were previously delayed due to winter weather and are now a priority for INDOT crews.
- Northeast Side (Clear Path 465): Major activity continues at the I-465 and I-69 interchange. Crews are performing overnight bridge demolition on the former ramp from southbound I-69 to southbound I-465. Commuters using this interchange should watch for mobile striping operations and intermittent ramp closures that may linger into the early morning hours.
- North Side: Nightly lane closures are scheduled on I-465 westbound between Michigan Road (U.S. 421) and Ditch Road. Starting at 10 p.m. tonight, the two right lanes will be blocked to allow for final underneath work on the recently reopened Township Line Road bridge.
City Street and Transit Alerts
Construction for the IndyGo Blue Line is creating a significant detour on the city's east side. Eastbound Washington Street is currently closed to all through traffic between Southeastern Avenue and State Avenue for the installation of new storm sewers. Motorists are being detoured south on Southeastern Avenue and north on State Avenue to bypass the work zone. Westbound access on Washington Street remains open at this time.
In Hamilton County, lane restrictions are expected today on 146th Street near Hazel Dell Road between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. for utility location work. Drivers in the Fishers and Carmel areas should anticipate minor delays in these moving work zones.
Public Transportation Schedule
IndyGo will operate on a Sunday schedule today in observance of the Presidents' Day holiday. Routes that do not typically offer Sunday service will not be running. Commuters are encouraged to check the MyKey app for real-time bus arrivals, as holiday schedules may differ from standard weekday timing. The IndyGo Customer Service Center will also be operating on limited holiday hours.
