I-465 Overnight Lane Shifts and Major Transit Detours for Wednesday, Feb. 11

Indianapolis Mid-Week Commute Overview
Commuters in Indianapolis should prepare for significant infrastructure activity and transit adjustments this Wednesday, February 11, 2026. As the city moves through the heart of the winter construction season, major projects like Clear Path 465 and the I-65 Safety and Efficiency project continue to impact daily travel times. Drivers are encouraged to plan for overnight lane shifts on the north side and ongoing ramp closures near Carmel.
Major Highway Impacts and Construction
On the city's north side, motorists utilizing I-465 Westbound between Ditch Road and US 421 will see a shift in lane restrictions. The two right lanes that were closed for bridge construction earlier this week are scheduled to reopen by 5:00 AM this morning. However, a new phase of work begins tonight at 10:00 PM, which will see the two left lanes blocked in the same area. This overnight restriction is expected to last until Friday morning.
- Clear Path 465: Construction is approximately 80% complete on the northeast side. While mainline I-465 is expected to reach completion by late spring, commuters should still expect intermittent restrictions near the I-69 interchange. The I-465 northbound entrance ramp at 56th Street and Shadeland Avenue remains closed as part of long-term improvements.
- I-65 Safety & Efficiency: Work continues on the southeast side between the I-465 interchange and the I-65/I-70 overpass. Two lanes remain open in each direction, but narrow shoulders and adjusted lane widths require extra caution through the five-mile project corridor.
- Level Up 31: In the Carmel area, the southbound US 31 ramp to 106th Street remains closed through the spring. Drivers should note the reduced speed limit of 45 MPH throughout this construction zone.
Public Transit and IndyGo Alerts
Public transport riders should be aware of several service changes that took effect earlier this week. The new 2026 fare structure is now in place, with basic fares set at $2.75 to accommodate rising operational costs.
- 18th Street Closure: Due to a two-week closure on 18th Street that began in early February, IndyGo Routes 90 (Red Line) and 92 (Purple Line) are currently on detour. The IU Health Station is temporarily closed, and riders should use alternative stops as directed by onboard announcements.
- Route 26 Improvements: Commuters on the north side can benefit from increased frequency on Route 26, which now operates every 30 minutes, seven days a week, as of this past Sunday.
- Blue Line Construction: Route 8 remains on a long-term detour between Harding Street and Belmont Avenue due to ongoing Blue Line infrastructure work along Washington Street.
Winter Driving Safety
With February weather conditions remaining unpredictable, the Department of Public Works reminds drivers to stay alert for slick spots on bridges and overpasses. If you are using public transit, allow extra time to reach your stop and dress in layers, as sub-zero wind chills have been reported recently across Central Indiana.
