Illinois man convicted in armed robbery of northeast Indianapolis Burger King after pursuit into Hamilton County

Conviction follows January 2025 incident that began with a robbery call and ended with a multi-agency traffic stop
An Illinois man has been convicted in connection with an armed robbery at a Burger King on Indianapolis’ northeast side, a case that escalated into a police pursuit crossing into Hamilton County. The incident occurred on Jan. 16, 2025, at the restaurant located at 7620 N. Shadeland Ave., in the Castleton area.
Police were dispatched mid-morning after reports that a masked suspect jumped over the counter and took cash from employees while displaying a firearm. Investigators later documented that a 911 caller reported the robber leaving the area in a black Chevrolet Cruze.
Within roughly half an hour of the robbery report, an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer attempted to stop a vehicle matching that description. The driver did not comply, and the encounter developed into a high-speed pursuit that lasted nearly 20 minutes and traveled north into Carmel. The pursuit ended near East 146th Street when the vehicle was disabled after stop sticks were deployed, and arrests were made without further incident. Authorities reported recovering cash believed to be connected to the robbery.
What investigators said happened during the chase and immediate identification process
As the pursuit unfolded, police also interviewed Burger King employees, who provided a clothing description of the robbery suspect: a white shirt, black coat and brown or tan pants. After the vehicle was stopped in Carmel, officers brought witnesses to the scene for an on-the-spot identification procedure, telling them that police had detained individuals who “may or may not” have been involved.
In later court proceedings, a judge addressed challenges to that identification process and allowed the evidence to remain in the case record.
Separate charges and case posture highlighted in court filings
In addition to the state-level case initially filed after the arrest, federal court records show the defendant faced charges connected to the Jan. 16, 2025 Burger King robbery, including an allegation of brandishing a firearm in relation to the offense and an allegation of unlawful firearm possession by a felon.
Location: 7620 N. Shadeland Ave., Indianapolis (northeast side/Castleton area)
Date: Jan. 16, 2025
Key sequence: robbery report → vehicle located → pursuit into Carmel → stop sticks used → arrests and recovery of suspected stolen cash
The case underscores how armed-robbery investigations can quickly extend beyond city limits, requiring coordination among multiple agencies during fast-moving pursuits.
Court records reflect the conviction in the robbery case. Sentencing details and any remaining proceedings, including related firearm allegations, depend on the jurisdiction and the status of any separate cases.
