The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) has opened an internal review after video circulated online showing an officer threatening a 17-year-old during a traffic stop connected to an anti-ICE protest. In the recording, an officer is heard telling the teen, “I will f---ing kill you,” as multiple officers surround the vehicle.

IMPD has acknowledged that language captured in the video “does not reflect” the department’s standards and said the incident was recorded on body-worn camera, which is being reviewed as part of the department’s investigation.

Police say stop followed reports of weapons tied to planned protest activity

In a public account of the incident, IMPD said officers had received information that students may be armed at a planned protest and began monitoring the area. Police said they observed a juvenile male enter a vehicle with a firearm and initiated a traffic stop after the vehicle left the area.

IMPD said officers located a loaded handgun within reach during the stop and arrested a juvenile for dangerous possession of a firearm.
