Case centers on February 2025 crash at U.S. 40 and Ronald Reagan Parkway

A Hendricks County court has sentenced an Indianapolis man for his role in a high-speed crash that killed two children—an infant and a toddler—during an attempted traffic stop that escalated into a police pursuit in February 2025.

The case stems from events on Feb. 5, 2025, when police in the west Indianapolis suburbs identified a vehicle reported stolen from Indianapolis and attempted to stop it on U.S. 40. Investigators said the driver accelerated away rather than comply, and the pursuit continued westbound along U.S. 40.

What investigators said happened during the pursuit

Police documents described the vehicle reaching highway speeds as it approached the intersection of U.S. 40 and Ronald Reagan Parkway. Investigators said the driver went through the intersection against a red light and collided with an SUV carrying a family.

The crash was fatal for two children riding in the SUV: a 2-month-old girl died at the scene, and her 3-year-old brother died days later after being removed from life support. The collision also caused severe damage to the SUV, which investigators said caught fire after impact.

Charges, plea change, and sentencing

Prosecutors filed multiple felony counts tied to the pursuit and the resulting deaths and injuries, including resisting law enforcement with a vehicle causing death and auto theft. Additional counts alleged catastrophic injury and impairment-related operating offenses.

After initially contesting the charges, the defendant changed his plea to guilty during court proceedings in January 2026. The plea resolved the case without a jury verdict. The court then imposed sentence on Feb. 9, 2026.

Other courtroom security incident linked to the case

The prosecution unfolded alongside heightened community attention that included a separate, deadly security incident outside the Hendricks County Courthouse in Danville in May 2025. In that incident, a 65-year-old man identified as the children’s great-grandfather was shot and killed by sheriff’s deputies after authorities said he brandished a firearm while inmates were being escorted into the building. The deputies were later cleared following an investigation that concluded their actions were lawful.
