Indy Parks launches hiring push for about 400 summer positions, with bonuses tied to April deadlines

Seasonal staffing drive targets aquatics, camps and food programs
Indy Parks and Recreation has opened recruitment for up to 400 seasonal summer jobs across Indianapolis, positioning the annual hiring surge as a key step in staffing pools, day camps and other warm-weather programs citywide. The openings span roles that directly support public-facing services, including lifeguards, pool managers, camp counselors and food program staff.
The seasonal workforce is a central piece of the department’s summer operations, particularly for aquatics and youth programming that require expanded staffing levels when schools are out and park attendance increases.
Pay ranges and role requirements
Posted pay rates for the 2026 season place several high-demand positions in the mid-teens per hour. Lifeguard jobs list starting pay at $15 per hour. Pool manager roles list $16.50 per hour, and camp counselor positions commonly start at $14 per hour. The department also lists additional seasonal roles beyond aquatics and camps, such as cashiers, assistant program coordinators for summer meals, facility attendants, park inspectors, seasonal naturalists and stage technicians.
Age eligibility varies by job. Applicants must generally be at least 16 years old, while some positions require candidates to be 18 or older, reflecting supervisory duties, certifications, or work assignments involving higher responsibility.
Bonuses linked to early completion of hiring steps
Indy Parks is again using sign-on incentives as part of its seasonal recruitment strategy. A $500 sign-on bonus is offered for bonus-eligible jobs when candidates complete hiring paperwork and register for required training by an early-April deadline. A reduced $250 bonus is available later in the hiring cycle for eligible applicants who meet subsequent timing requirements. The structure is designed to encourage early commitments so training, scheduling and facility staffing can be finalized before peak season.
In-person hiring events scheduled
To speed interviews and onboarding, Indy Parks has scheduled hiring events at multiple sites. Planned events include a multi-day hiring window at Christian Park, followed by an additional hiring event at Thatcher Park in early April. These events are intended to connect applicants directly with hiring staff and help fill time-sensitive positions such as lifeguards and pool operations roles.
How to apply and what candidates should prepare
- Review seasonal openings and eligibility requirements through the Indy Parks summer jobs portal.
- Be prepared for role-specific prerequisites, including trainings and certifications for aquatics positions.
- Track bonus deadlines closely; the highest incentives require completion of onboarding steps by early April.
Indy Parks’ seasonal hiring cycles typically intensify in March and early April, when staffing commitments affect pool schedules, camp capacity and the availability of summer programming.
