Morning Traffic Outlook for February 6, 2026

Indianapolis commuters should prepare for a mix of long-term construction impacts and specific short-term closures this Friday. While the major 'Clear Path 465' project is nearing its final phases, the northeast side remains a primary area of concern for those navigating the I-465 and I-69 interchange. Additionally, downtown travelers and transit users face new detours due to localized infrastructure repairs and a large-scale convention at the Indiana Convention Center.

Northeast Side: Clear Path 465 Intermittent Delays

As of early February 2026, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) reports that the Clear Path 465 project is approximately 80% complete. However, drivers should expect intermittent lane and ramp restrictions today as crews perform finishing touches on the reconfigured I-465/I-69 interchange. While the new ramp from southbound I-69 to southbound I-465 is now operational, expect narrowed lanes and lower speed limits between 71st Street and 56th Street. Commuters heading toward Binford Boulevard should remain alert for shifting traffic patterns as mainline I-465 work continues toward its projected spring completion.

Downtown and Transit Alerts

Public transit riders and downtown drivers need to account for a significant closure on 18th Street. This week, 18th Street remains closed for a two-week infrastructure project, which has forced IndyGo to detour the Red Line (Route 90) and the Purple Line (Route 92). The IU Health Station is currently closed, and riders are encouraged to use the nearest available stops at 14th Street or 22nd Street. Furthermore, minor timing adjustments are in effect across Routes 5, 6, 8, and 10 to account for ongoing construction detours throughout the city center.

Blue Line and West Side Impacts

On the west side, the construction of the IndyGo Blue Line continues to impact Washington Street. Expect the corridor between Rockville Road and Belmont Avenue to be restricted to a single lane in each direction. While bidirectional traffic is being maintained, the heavy machinery and curb work near North Capitol Avenue are causing localized 'rubbernecking' delays during peak morning and afternoon hours.

Commuter Tips for Friday

  • Plan for Downtown Crowds: With the FENCETECH 2026 convention wrapping up today, expect higher-than-normal pedestrian traffic and parking shortages near the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium.
  • Watch the Speed: Speed enforcement is increased in the I-465 work zones near the White River Bridge and the I-69 junction.
  • Check Your Route: Route 8 riders should note that a new daily schedule is in place to manage Blue Line construction delays.
