Major Interstate Closures and Lane Restrictions

Commuters navigating the Indianapolis metro area today, Tuesday, February 17, 2026, should prepare for significant lane restrictions on I-465 and I-69 as several major infrastructure projects reach critical phases. On the south side, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has restricted the left lane of I-465 westbound between U.S. 31 and Bluff Road. This daily closure, occurring from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., is necessary for ongoing barrier wall improvements and is expected to cause localized congestion throughout the week.

In addition, motorists on the south side will encounter a single-lane closure on northbound I-69 from Southport Road to Epler Avenue. Crews are on-site from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. to address drainage issues. Drivers are advised to allow for an extra 10 to 15 minutes of travel time or utilize alternate routes such as State Road 37.

  • I-465 Westbound: Two right lanes are closed nightly between Michigan Road (U.S. 421) and Ditch Road from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for bridge work related to the Township Line Road project.
  • Clear Path 465: Overnight mobile operations for pavement striping are scheduled on eastbound I-465 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • I-65 Safety Project: Northbound and southbound lanes between I-465 and the I-70 overpass remain reduced to two lanes as part of the ongoing capacity expansion project.

Public Transit and IndyGo Service Alerts

IndyGo has implemented several service adjustments this month to accommodate infrastructure projects, most notably the ongoing construction of the Blue Line. Commuters using Route 8 should expect continued detours between Harding Street and Belmont Avenue. Furthermore, the Red Line (Route 90) is currently detoured near Fountain Square due to utility work, resulting in the temporary closure of the Pleasant Run Parkway and Fountain Square stations.

  • Route 26: Now operating with an improved frequency of every 30 minutes, seven days a week.
  • Routes 5, 6, 8, and 10: Experiencing minor timing adjustments to account for construction-related delays in the downtown corridor.
  • Purple Line (Route 92): Minor scheduling shifts are in effect to improve on-time performance during the winter season.

Local Road and Interchange Updates

In Hamilton County, a significant traffic control change takes effect today at the intersection of 186th Street and Eagletown Road. Drivers should stay alert for modified stop conditions at this junction. In Fishers, the westbound lane of 136th Street between Cyntheanne Road and Prairie Baptist Road remains closed for widening, with detours expected to last through late spring. On 116th Street, intermittent lane restrictions between I-69 and Cumberland Road are scheduled between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. for traffic signal equipment installation.
