Critical Detours for the Blue Line Project

Commuters and weekend travelers should prepare for significant disruptions along the Washington Street corridor as IndyGo’s Blue Line construction enters a more intensive phase this February. As of this Sunday, February 15, 2026, several key segments of Washington Street remain closed or restricted to facilitate storm sewer installation and station construction.

  • Eastbound Washington Street: Traffic is currently closed between Southeastern and State avenues. Drivers are being detoured south on Southeastern Avenue and north on State Avenue to reconnect with Washington Street.
  • Westbound Washington Street: A major closure persists between Belmont Avenue and Harding Street. Motorists traveling westbound must detour south on Harding Street to I-70 West, utilizing the Holt Road exit to navigate back north.
  • Capitol Avenue: Construction of a new bus station near the Indiana Statehouse continues to restrict lanes at the intersection of West Washington Street and North Capitol Avenue.

Northeast Side: Clear Path 465 Status

On the northeast side, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) reports that the Clear Path 465 project is now over 80% complete, though several high-impact ramp closures remain in effect this weekend. While the majority of new bridges are open, crews are focused on the final reconfiguration of the I-69 and I-465 interchange. Drivers should avoid the following ramps:

  • The ramp from 56th Street to northbound I-465 remains closed for long-term reconstruction.
  • The ramp from Allisonville Road to eastbound I-465 is currently restricted, with travelers encouraged to use 82nd Street as an alternative.
  • The ramp from northbound Binford Boulevard to westbound I-465 is also closed to through traffic.

IndyGo Service Adjustments

Following the schedule overhaul implemented last Sunday, transit riders should be aware of permanent timing adjustments designed to account for ongoing construction. Route 26 has significantly increased its frequency, now running every 30 minutes, seven days a week. However, minor timing shifts are in effect for the Red Line (90), Purple Line (92), and local Routes 5, 6, 8, and 10. Route 8, in particular, is operating on a modified daily schedule to navigate the Blue Line work zones on Washington Street.

Local Road Conditions and Pothole Alerts

The Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) is warning of a spike in pothole development due to the recent freeze-thaw cycle. Crews are active downtown and along major thoroughfares today. Additionally, work continues on the Henry Street Bridge project and the two-way conversion of 29th and 30th Streets. In the Fishers area, the westbound lane of 136th Street between Cyntheanne Road and Prairie Baptist Road remains closed for widening, with a projected reopening in late spring.
