Public Meeting Scheduled for Marion County Election Board

The Marion County Election Board is scheduled to hold a public meeting today, Friday, March 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. The session comes at a critical time as the city prepares for the 2026 Primary Election, which is set for May 5. Board members, including Chair Nolita Stewart and County Clerk Kate Sweeney Bell, are expected to review administrative preparations and logistical updates for the upcoming voting cycle.

Under the current state election calendar, several key deadlines are looming. March 2 marked the cutoff for regular party committees to file annual campaign finance reports, and the board is now moving toward the March 21 deadline for mailing absentee ballots to voters with approved applications. Today's meeting provides a public forum for officials to discuss precinct management and the certification of local candidates for the spring ballot.

State Commission Meets in Downtown Indianapolis

In addition to local board activity, the Indiana Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs (ICHLA) is holding a public meeting today at 1:00 p.m. The session is being hosted at the Indiana Government Center South in the Cardinal Hall conference room. As a state-level body based in Indianapolis, the commission's agenda typically focuses on policy initiatives regarding educational attainment, health access, and economic opportunities for the state's Hispanic and Latino residents.

Mayor’s Office Reports Progress on Homelessness Initiative

While no formal press conference is scheduled for the Mayor today, the Mayor’s Office released new data regarding the "Streets to Home Indy" initiative. Senior policy advisor Aryn Schounce confirmed that 114 individuals experiencing homelessness have been successfully transitioned into permanent housing since the program’s expansion began last July. The initiative, a partnership between the City of Indianapolis and the Coalition for Homelessness Intervention and Prevention, aims to house a total of 350 people by this summer.

City-County Council Update

Following the full City-County Council session held earlier this week on March 2, there are no committee meetings scheduled for today. Council leadership is currently transitioning from the recently concluded state legislative session to focus on local implementation of new state laws, including modernization measures for township government and new regional development tax credits that were authorized in the final days of the General Assembly.
