Monday Commute Alert: I-465 Ramps and Blue Line Construction Drive Delays

Major Delays on Northeast I-465 and I-69 Interchange
Commuters on the northeast side should prepare for a slow start this Monday, March 9, 2026. The Clear Path 465 project, while now over 80% complete, continues to heavily impact daily traffic patterns at the junction of I-465 and I-69. With approximately 120,000 vehicles passing through this corridor daily, drivers should expect significant congestion during the morning peak as crews work toward a projected summer completion.
Several critical ramp closures remain in effect this week, requiring motorists to utilize posted detours:
- Ramp from 56th Street to Northbound I-465: Remained closed for long-term reconstruction.
- Ramp from Allisonville Road to Eastbound I-465: Closed as part of the ongoing interchange reconfiguration.
- Ramp from Northbound Binford Boulevard to Westbound I-465: Closed for pavement and bridge work.
While the new ramp from southbound I-69 to southbound I-465 is now open, lane restrictions persist near 75th Street on Binford Boulevard, slowing the transition for those heading toward downtown.
Blue Line Construction Impacts Washington Street
On the East Side, the Blue Line Bus Rapid Transit project is in a high-activity phase. Washington Street is currently closed to all eastbound traffic between Southeastern Avenue and State Avenue. This 90-day closure is necessary for storm sewer installation and is expected to last through the spring. Eastbound motorists are being detoured south to I-70 or encouraged to use English Avenue as an alternative.
In the downtown core, lane closures are active on both Washington and Maryland Streets between West Street and Capitol Avenue. These restrictions are facilitating the construction of new station platforms and pedestrian curb improvements. Commuters should allow at least an extra 15 minutes for travel through the Mile Square.
IndyGo Service Alerts and Hamilton County Roadworks
Public transit riders should be aware of several ongoing service adjustments. IndyGo Route 90 (Red Line) continues its detour near Fountain Square due to infrastructure work on Raymond Street, with temporary stations in place. Additionally, following the service updates implemented in February, Route 26 now operates on a 30-minute frequency to help mitigate delays caused by these widespread construction zones.
In Hamilton County, the westbound lane of 136th Street remains closed between Cyntheanne Road and Prairie Baptist Road. This closure has been extended into late spring due to earlier winter weather delays. Drivers in Fishers should also look for intermittent lane restrictions at the intersection of 116th Street and Allisonville Road as utility relocation work continues.
