Morning Weather Alert and Commute Impact

Commuters heading out this Tuesday morning, March 10, 2026, should prepare for challenging driving conditions. A line of strong storms is moving through Central Indiana and is expected to persist until approximately 9:00 AM. With wind gusts reaching up to 50 MPH and heavy downpours reported, drivers should stay alert for localized flooding on low-lying roads and reduced visibility during the peak morning rush. A separate weather alert is also in effect for more severe weather expected later tonight into Wednesday morning.

Statewide Tornado Drill Today

At 10:15 AM, the National Weather Service and local authorities will conduct a statewide tornado drill. While this is a test, commuters and residents will hear outdoor sirens and receive mobile alerts. If you are on the road during this time, maintain your focus on the highway and do not be distracted by the audible test signals.

Major Roadworks and Interstate Restrictions

Several long-term infrastructure projects continue to affect major arteries across the Circle City:

  • Clear Path 465 (Northeast Side): The massive reconstruction of the I-465 and I-69 interchange is approximately 80% complete. Commuters should expect continued lane shifts and ramp restrictions. Notably, the entrance ramp from 56th Street to northbound I-465 remains closed as part of long-term work scheduled through June.
  • I-65 Safety and Efficiency Project: Work continues on the southeast side of the city between I-465 and the North Split. Watch for overnight lane closures and reduced speeds near the Hanna Avenue bridge area.
  • I-465 Bridge Work: Expect delays on westbound I-465 between Ditch Road and US 421 due to ongoing bridge construction. Crews have been utilizing overnight lane blocks that often impact the early morning transition period.

Public Transport and Local Street Closures

IndyGo riders and downtown drivers should take note of significant detours for the Blue Line construction:

  • Washington Street Closure: Washington Street is currently closed to through traffic between Southeastern and State avenues. This closure is part of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Blue Line expansion and is expected to impact the area for several months.
  • IndyGo Detours: Route 8 and other local lines are operating on established detours around the Washington Street construction zone. Temporary stops have been placed along Southeastern Avenue to accommodate affected passengers.

Speed Enforcement Reminder

INDOT has confirmed that "Safe Zones" speed enforcement is active in the Clear Path 465 work zone. Automated speed timing devices are monitoring the area, and citations are being issued for vehicles traveling 11 MPH or more over the posted work-zone limit when workers are present.
