Official Notice: City Council Schedule Updates and Winter Service Advisories

Meeting Update: Ethics Committee Cancellation
Residents and stakeholders are advised that the Ethics Committee meeting of the Indianapolis City-County Council, previously scheduled for Thursday, January 22, 2026, has been cancelled. Currently, there are no other committee hearings or board meetings slated for this date. The City-County Council is expected to resume its regular legislative activity with a full session on Monday, February 2, at 7:00 p.m. in the Public Assembly Room of the City-County Building. Agendas for the upcoming session will be made available to the public on the Friday preceding the meeting.
Zoning and Development Notice
The Metropolitan Development Commission has issued a formal notice regarding the proposed data center project in Martindale Brightwood. Following a request for a continuance from local residents to allow for further regulatory research, the public hearing originally scheduled for mid-January has been officially pushed to Thursday, February 12. This delay provides additional time for the City-County Council to evaluate transparency and oversight protocols regarding data center developments within Marion County.
Department of Public Works: Trash and Winter Policy
As of January 2026, residential trash collection for neighborhoods formerly serviced by Republic or WM has officially transitioned to Lakeshore Recycling Services (LRS). Residents in these affected areas must use their new LRS-issued carts for all standard waste disposal. Furthermore, DPW reminds the public of the standing snow removal priority system. Maintenance crews continue to prioritize major thoroughfares and streets adjacent to emergency services. Per the city's updated winter policy, residential streets are only scheduled for clearing by contractors once local snow accumulation reaches a minimum threshold of four inches.
Transit Alerts: Detours and Fare Adjustments
IndyGo has issued a service alert for the Red Line (Route 90) and Route 92 due to the closure of 18th Street for essential utility and infrastructure improvements. This closure, which began earlier this week, is expected to last approximately fourteen days. During this period, the IU Health Station will remain closed, and riders are encouraged to plan for alternate boarding locations. Additionally, commuters are reminded that the new fare structure of $2.75 for regular fixed-route service is now fully active across the transit system.
Public Health and Seasonal Safety
Marion County health officials report that respiratory illness activity remains at a moderate level as of late January. Residents are encouraged to utilize local clinics for seasonal immunizations and follow preventative hygiene protocols. Simultaneously, the Indianapolis Winter Contingency Plan remains in effect through March 31, ensuring that emergency shelters and cold-weather resources are available to vulnerable populations throughout the city.
