Transportation and Infrastructure Alert: Blue Line Construction

The Indianapolis Department of Public Works and IndyGo have issued updated transit notices regarding the ongoing Blue Line infrastructure project. Significant road closures and bus detours are currently active to facilitate these improvements:

  • Washington Street Closure: Washington Street remains closed between Southeastern Avenue and State Avenue. This closure, which began earlier this month, is necessary for utility and roadway work.
  • Route 8 Detours: Effective as of February 18, 2026, the detour for Route 8 has been adjusted due to construction between Belmont Avenue and Harding Street. Westbound bus stops in this zone are currently closed, and temporary stops have been established at the intersections of Washington and Harding streets, and Washington and Belmont Avenue.

Motorists are advised to utilize detour routes along Michigan Street and White River Parkway to avoid the construction zones.

Public service announcements have been issued to encourage community-wide efforts to improve cardiac arrest survival rates. The city continues to promote CPR and AED education as part of the Nation of Lifesavers initiative, aimed at ensuring that residents are prepared to act during cardiac emergencies.
