Infrastructure Alert: Fountain Square Road Closures
The Indianapolis Department of Public Works (Indy DPW) and Citizens Energy Group remind residents that significant road closures are currently in effect in the Fountain Square neighborhood. As of Monday, February 2, Shelby Street is closed to both vehicles and cyclists between Morris and Prospect streets. This closure is necessary for utility relocation and stormwater infrastructure upgrades.
During this phase, northbound and southbound vehicular traffic is being detoured to Keystone Avenue via Raymond Street and English Avenue. Bicyclists are encouraged to use the Pleasant Run Trail, Spruce Street, and Fletcher Avenue as alternative routes. IndyGo Red Line (Route 90) services are also under detour, with the Pleasant Run and Raymond bus platforms temporarily closed. This project is expected to continue through the end of March 2026.
Community Grant Opportunities
Indy DPW is currently accepting applications for the 2026 Indianapolis Neighborhood Infrastructure Partnership (INIP). Community-based organizations are invited to submit proposals for cost-share awards to fund new roads, sidewalks, and pedestrian safety improvements. The city has allocated up to $1.5 million in matching funds, with individual projects eligible for up to $500,000. The application window remains open until February 13, 2026.
Public Safety and Health Advisory
Following recent snowfall, city officials continue to monitor local road conditions. While primary thoroughfares are being treated, residents are urged to exercise patience and caution, particularly in residential areas. Additionally, the Indiana Department of Health continues its outreach following the Rare Disease Advisory Council's recent session to promote awareness of public health resources available at the state level.
