Public Notice: Municipal Service Updates and Infrastructure Alerts

Health Advisory: Speedway Boil Water Notice
An active boil water advisory remains in effect for specific residential and business sectors within the Town of Speedway as of Sunday, February 8, 2026. This advisory follows multiple water main failures that occurred earlier this month. While initial laboratory results from February 5 confirmed that water samples meet state drinking water standards and show no signs of harmful bacteria, the precautionary notice is expected to persist through the remainder of this weekend until secondary confirmation is finalized. Residents are urged to boil water for at least one minute before consumption, cooking, or dental hygiene. For those impacted, the Speedway Municipal Center located at 5300 Crawfordsville Road continues to provide free bottled water from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Winter Operations: Post-Storm Recovery and Pothole Repair
In the wake of the severe winter storm in late January, which blanketed Marion County with over 11 inches of snow, the Indianapolis Department of Public Works (Indy DPW) has transitioned its focus to seasonal pavement maintenance. The recent freeze-thaw cycles have resulted in increased pothole activity across major transit corridors. DPW crews are currently deployed on priority thoroughfares to address road degradation. Citizens are encouraged to report significant road hazards via the city’s online reporting portal. Additionally, property owners are reminded of their responsibility to keep adjacent sidewalks clear of any remaining ice to ensure pedestrian safety, particularly near school zones and bus stops.
Infrastructure Notice: Major Construction and Bridge Work
Several long-term infrastructure projects under the Indy DPW Capital Improvement Program are entering critical phases this month. Residents should plan for continued lane restrictions and detours at the following locations:
- Washington Street over Little Eagle Creek: Reconstruction of the bridge, including the installation of a new precast concrete arch and updated sidewalks, remains on schedule for completion by the end of Q1 2026.
- Fountain Square Drainage Improvements: Work continues on the Shelby Street storm sewer trunk line. This project is designed to mitigate flash flooding near the intersections of Virginia and Prospect Avenues.
- White River Innovation District: Infrastructure development at the former GM Stamping Plant site continues, involving new roadway construction and preparatory work for the Henry Street bridge.
Service Alert: Trash Collection Provider Reminder
The city wishes to remind residents that the transition to Lakeshore Recycling Services (LRS) for municipal trash collection is now fully in effect for all areas previously served by Republic and WM. Residents should ensure that all carts are placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on their scheduled pickup day. For any issues regarding missed collections or cart replacements, the Mayor’s Action Center remains the primary point of contact for administrative resolution.
Upcoming Public Meetings
The following municipal meetings are scheduled at the City-County Building:
