Saturday Traffic Overview

For Saturday, February 14, 2026, motorists in Indianapolis should prepare for a mix of significant infrastructure detours and heavy evening congestion due to Valentine's Day events. While some major projects are nearing completion, new utility and sewer work for the IndyGo Blue Line is creating significant obstacles on the city’s east and west sides. Combined with a sold-out comedy show and orchestral performances downtown, travel times are expected to be 15–20 minutes longer than a typical Saturday evening.

Major Roadworks and Detours

The most significant impact today involves Washington Street. As part of the ongoing Blue Line Bus Rapid Transit construction, two major segments of Washington Street remain restricted. Between Belmont Avenue and Harding Street, westbound lanes are closed for storm sewer installation; motorists are being detoured south to I-70. Additionally, a new closure that began earlier this week between Southeastern and State avenues has restricted eastbound traffic. Drivers heading east should use Southeastern Avenue as a primary detour.

On the northeast side, the Clear Path 465 project is now approximately 80% complete. While the newly replaced Township Line Road bridge over I-465 successfully reopened earlier this week, commuters should still watch for intermittent lane shifts and shoulder closures near the I-69 interchange. Although the next round of major overnight bridge demolitions is not scheduled until Monday, February 16, crews remain active in the area for final pavement striping and barrier wall maintenance.

IndyGo Public Transit Updates

Public transit riders should note that Route 8 is operating on a significantly altered daily schedule and detour route to accommodate the Washington Street closures. Riders are encouraged to check the latest maps at the Julia M. Carson Transit Center, as several westbound stops between Belmont and Harding have been temporarily relocated to Michigan Street.

In positive news for northside commuters, Route 26 has increased its frequency as of this week. Buses now run every 30 minutes, seven days a week, providing more reliable connections between Keystone at the Crossing and the downtown transit hub.

Downtown Event Alert

Heavy localized traffic is expected in the Wholesale District and near Gainbridge Fieldhouse starting around 5:30 p.m. Major events tonight include:

  • Nate Bargatze: The "Big Dumb Eyes World Tour" at Gainbridge Fieldhouse (7:00 p.m.).
  • Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra: Mahler’s “Resurrection” Symphony at Hilbert Circle Theatre (5:30 p.m.).
  • Matteo Lane: Live performance at Old National Centre (7:00 p.m.).

With thousands of visitors expected for these shows and Valentine's Day dining, parking garages near Maryland and Pennsylvania Streets will likely reach capacity early. Drivers are advised to arrive at least 45 minutes prior to event start times to navigate the increased pedestrian activity and localized gridlock.
