West Indianapolis double shooting on Rockville Road leaves one dead and another in critical condition

Shooting reported in Southwest District; firearms recovered at scene
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police are investigating a shooting on the city’s west side that left one man dead and another hospitalized in critical condition.
Officers assigned to the Southwest District were called to the 6400 block of Rockville Road, near High School Road, at about 11:20 a.m. Wednesday after a report that two people had been shot. Police found two adult men in the driveway of a home suffering from gunshot injuries. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was taken to a hospital and was reported in critical condition.
Firearms were located in the driveway near the victims, police said. A person was detained at the scene but later released as the investigation continued.
Investigators describe incident as targeted, not random
Detectives said preliminary information indicates the people involved knew each other and that gunfire was exchanged. Police described the shooting as a targeted incident and said there was no ongoing threat to the broader community.
Investigators did not immediately release the identities of the victims or details about what led up to the shooting. The Marion County Coroner’s Office is expected to release the name of the deceased after family notifications are completed.
