Public Notice: Metropolitan Development Commission Hearing

The Metropolitan Development Commission of Marion County is scheduled to convene for a public hearing today, Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 1:00 PM. The session will take place in the Public Assembly Room (Room 230) on the 2nd floor of the City-County Building, located at 200 E. Washington Street. Residents are advised that the commission will consider several high-priority resolutions and zoning petitions impacting local infrastructure and neighborhood growth.

• Resolution 2026-E-001: Authorization of $120,000 in Certified Technology Park Grant Funds for demolition and site preparation at 1200 Indiana Avenue within the 16 Tech Park (Council District #12).
• Resolution 2026-R-004: Authorization for the Department of Metropolitan Development to enter a contract for placemaking services with Downtown Indy Inc., with a total expenditure not to exceed $2,040,000.
• Zoning Petition 2025-ZON-075: A request to rezone 0.22 acres at 5416 North College Avenue from D-3 and C-3 districts to the MU-2 (Mixed-Use) classification to facilitate a new mixed-use development in Council District #7.
• Zoning Petition 2025-ZON-128: A request for rezoning at 2802 Lafayette Road to provide for small-scale commercial workspace and self-storage facilities.

Meeting Cancellation: Municipal Corporations Committee

The Indianapolis City-County Council has officially issued a cancellation notice for the Municipal Corporations Committee meeting originally scheduled for today, Wednesday, March 4, 2026. No rescheduled date has been announced at this time. Citizens looking to engage with council committees are encouraged to monitor the legislative calendar for the upcoming Parks and Recreation Committee updates, though that body's March 5 session has also been removed from the active schedule.

Transportation Alert: IndyGo Route 8 Detours

IndyGo continues to implement significant detours for Route 8 due to ongoing Blue Line infrastructure improvements and road closures along Washington Street. Commuters should take note of the following active restrictions:

• Belmont to Harding: Washington Street remains closed between Belmont Avenue and Harding Street. Westbound stops 50758, 50756, 50753, and 50885 are closed. Temporary stops have been established at the intersections of Washington/Harding and Washington/Belmont.
• Southeastern to State: A full closure of Washington Street from Southeastern Avenue to State Avenue is in effect. Route 8 buses are utilizing Southeastern and State avenues as primary detour routes.

Environmental Health Advisory: Water Quality and Air Monitoring

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) reminds residents that the public comment period for the 2026 List of Impaired Waters is currently open through March 21. Additionally, the Marion County Public Health Department (MCPHD) is continuing its rollout of a localized air pollution monitoring network in West Indianapolis to track long-term respiratory health risks in the area. Residents in central Indiana should also remain weather-aware following the Flood Watch issued for the region earlier this week due to sustained rainfall.
