Public Health Advisory: West Indianapolis Air Quality

The Marion County Public Health Department (MCPHD) has issued a notice regarding the deployment of a new air quality monitoring network in West Indianapolis. Following decades of concern regarding industrial exposure, the department is installing specialized monitors to track real-time pollution levels. This initiative aims to provide data-driven insights into respiratory health risks in the community. Residents can expect to see monitoring equipment being installed in neighborhood corridors through the end of the month.

Infrastructure and Transit Updates

Commuters and transit riders should be aware of several ongoing service and road adjustments active as of Friday, February 27, 2026:

  • IndyGo Service Changes: Significant frequency improvements are now in effect for Route 26, which has moved to 30-minute service seven days a week. Additionally, Route 8 continues to operate under a modified schedule to accommodate the ongoing construction of the Blue Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) infrastructure.
  • Major Road Construction: The Clear Path 465 project remains active on the city’s northeast side. Motorists should anticipate intermittent lane and ramp restrictions at the I-69 and I-465 interchange as crews work toward a projected summer completion.
  • Utility Inquiry: The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) has officially opened an investigative inquiry into utility affordability following a surge in residential complaints regarding gas and electric bills. Public hearings for major providers, including AES Indiana, are being scheduled for the coming weeks.

Indy Parks Improvement Projects

Indy Parks and Recreation has confirmed that several neighborhood park renovations are entering active construction phases this week. Early 2026 priority projects include the installation of new playground equipment and trail improvements at Canterbury Park and Robey Park. Residents are advised that certain sections of these parks may be cordoned off for safety during the construction period.
